I love this manga! It’s hilariously funny so glad I picked this up. The storyline is less romance and more development with friends with a dash of romance more towards the end of the series. I found myself laughing while reading and getting weird looks at the airport. I should have recommended this to them!Tags : Happy Cafe, Vol. 1 [Kou Matsuzuki] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Happy Cafe Vol 1 Kou Matsuzuki 9781427817303 Books Reviews
This is one of those happy go lucky shoujo manga's that is just full of cuteness, but with a surprising amount of serious drama as well.
The heroine Uru decides to try working and living on her own after her mother remarries. Fortunately or unfortunately the cafe she is looking to work at is run by the two unlikeliest pair. One Ichirou is a somewhat lazy waiter who for some weird reason falls asleep in the strangest places and can only be woken up by putting a piece of candy in his mouth. The other is Shindou who doesn't have the best personality, but is an amazing pastry chef. Grudgingly Shindou gives Uru a job because they need the help, but because of her klutziness she isn't the best waitress. Her bubbly personality and willingness to help though makes her lots of friends and happy customers.
This was a fun and sweet read that I really enjoyed. The characters all have crazy and interesting personalities and I couldn't get enough of them. Uru is so much fun to read about and although its still early I think my favorite for a love interest is definitely Shindou he can be a bit gruff, but he has moments of sweetness too even though he doesn't like to show it as much.
For a sweet and heartwarming story of a young girl trying to make it on her own look no further than Happy Cafe!
NOTE I am reviewing ALL of the chapters. =]
I got Happy Cafe volume 1 from 3 years ago, it was pretty much the first manga I ever read (I had just got into anime at the time.).
I thought it was very cute and funny. Took me a while to have the pleasure of reading all the chapters, due to reasons and the wait was very hard. >_<
Before I finished Happy Cafe, I had become a huge Shojo manga addict and was reading any I could get my hands on, I just love romance and all the cute sweetness of shojos.
Now I am aware of all the cliches, art styles, typical stories, etc of the shojo manga genre.
Happy Cafe was cliche, and it had typical shojo moments, but that didn't stop it from being a wonderful, heart warming, adorable romantic comedy manga that it was.
Happy Cafe is now one of my most favorite mangas ever, it holds a special place in my heart and I could read it over and over.
THE STORY
The story was simple, with shojo cliches, but it was touching. I even cried a few times. ')
THE CHARACTERS
I feel in love with nearly all the characters, especially the main 3 Uru, Shindou and Ichirou. The art was wonderful and the guys where very hot/handsome. D
They had the feelings characters should have, to make you like them. (Unlike a lot of manga characters that you don't 'feel' anything from or for and they just fall flat.)
THE ART
The art was beautiful (imo), very nice and clean and of course cute. Even the food looked good and made me hungry. xD
OVERALL
I. LOVED. It. =]
Out of the 100s of shojo mangas I have read, Happy Cafe is one of my favorite and is one of the best. ^_^
(I wish Tokyopop hadn't gone down, now I don't know where to buy all the volumes. T_T)
I loved Happy Cafe, And I hope you do too. =w=b
Everything was fine.,
so, the volume was shipped between two sheets of cardboard paper glued together. The seller creased the book corner whilst putting it into the "package" and the top corner of the spine was in terrible condition. Of course, I bought the book used, but the description said "like new" so I assumed it would be dull corners and maybe a stain . I do not recommend buying something from this seller.
what do you get when you mix super strength, violence, and narcolepsy? The answer is Hilarity and Uru, Shindo, and Ichiro, respectively. At first glance, shindo and ichiro are the typical bishonen; pretty with great hair. then they start interacting with our enthusiastic heroine and their personalities break through. When Matsuzuki-san calls them the demon lord and weirdo I thought she read my mind. Uru is clumsy and adorable, she makes decisions based on what she thinks is best for everyone but her self.
The art is perfect for the feel of the book. The backgrounds are simple, but the story is about the characters. The uncluttered landscapes would actually make this series a good first-time manga. The characters are well drawn. Uru is very expressive and tends to get huge puppy dog eyes when she is excited, which gives comic contrast to her stoic coworkers.
In short, this is a great manga if you enjoy shojo. There is a formula that this book does not break from, but you should never go into a book expecting it to break new ground, especially when it is part of a genre that relies heavily on its tradition. If you have only contempt for shojo manga you may want to steer clear of this series.
